It started Thursday with our first OB appointment. We were going to find out the gender of our little baby! I kept trying to move my appointment because we were planning on driving to California that day and my appointment wasn't until 3:30 in the afternoon, but nothing was open, and I wasn't about to move my appointment back a few more weeks! With a little bit of coaxing the baby to move, we found out, ITS A BOY! We are beyond excited!
Afterwards, we headed to our favorite place, Venezia's, to celebrate! Then we were on the road! After a little bit of traffic in Phoenix it was smooth sailing, until we were about to exit in Blythe. We were slowing down and getting ready to change lanes when all of a sudden glass and debris from the car next to us flew in the air. Chuck asked me "did you see that? Was that a person??" But all I had seen was the flying shattered glass. We pulled over and Chuck ran back to see if everyone was all right. Cora and I waited in the car and not soon after there were lights and sirens and several police cars and firetrucks and fire engines arrived. Chuck came back to get his ID for the police and soon they came back to talk to me. I don't remember how much time had passed but soon we were on our way again. Chuck told me that the lady was still alive when he reached her and that she was running through traffic trying to end her life. He said she was pretty banged up and when the paramedics tried to ask her name she just kept saying "Jane Doe." The man who hit her was in complete shock. He said he hadn't even seen her till she was on top of his windshield. We knew we were lucky and how if we had been going any slower or had changed lanes earlier it might have been us that had hit her. I know that we were being looked after and kept out of harms way and I truly believe in the power of prayer and the one that Chuck's dad had said for us before we left had kept us safe!
Instead of heading straight to my mom's house in Temecula which was our original plan, we headed to Anaheim instead and got a hotel. It was probably around 11:30 and we were all pretty beat. The next morning we went to Mimi's for breakfast. Our traditional place to eat before heading to the Namm show! Afterwards we went to the show and met with some of the reps. A few hours later we were on our way to surprise my mom for her birthday! (Well, sort of surprise, she guessed) We got caught in typical California traffic and the hour and a half drive turned into three. We made it to my mom's around five or six and were finally able to give her her much anticipated birthday gift, tickets to see Donny Osmond!
After my stepdad got home from work we went out for some celebratory sushi (my mom's choice) which was delicious!
The next day we did a little bit of shopping! We had an early lunch at CPK and then we hit the mall. Finding out we were having a boy meant we sort of needed to start over since he couldn't wear any of Cora's old clothes, we went on the hunt for some baby boy clothes. <3 After the mall we headed to Escondido do have another birthday dinner for my mom with my grandpa. He took us to his favorite Italian restaurant. It was delicious! We ate really well while we were in town!
The next morning we went to my mom's ward. Cora is still adjusting to nursery so we spent most of the time outside following her around. She's pretty cute. After church we had a quick lunch and then were back on our way home. It was a short, quick trip but it was lots of fun and I loved being able to surprise my mom.
